Steve in Milwaukee, Wisconsin: Ceiling Fan Switch isn’t Working
My home was built in 1947 and still has the old single case wiring. I had taken down a ceiling fan to repair the ceiling under the fan area. I noticed that a lot of the casing was breaking off and some spots had electrical tape around the wiring. I took out the old electrical box to put a better support for the fan. The problem I'm having is that the light stays on and the switch isn't working. There were three wires run from the switch with one wire being red which is spliced into the bottom screw black wire. The power wire only has two wires coming up from the outlet and I'm also connecting another two wires going another light which is turned on by a switch on the light itself.
